If you want to stay for longer and explore Småland, we have some recommendations on what one can do in the nearby areas. If you have gotten a chance to rent a place from Josefin's relatives and want to stay for longer than just the weekend, let us know and we can see if it's available for longer (both before and after).
Karintorp
Böljero
The local "beach" with a small pier. Parking is available.
Böljero is situated below Sjöarp, where you walk past the tennis court and down to the lake. Ask a family member of Josefin for directions if you get lost.
Astrid Lindgren's World is a lot of fun for both small and big children, and is around an hour drive away in Vimmerby. More information can be found here.
Kleva Mineshaft is an old copper- and gold mine that you can explore, either by guide or on your own. There's also a museum and a chance to pan for gold.
Tickets often need to be booked in advance, so take a look at their website here.
Ädelfors has two gold-related activities that you can do:
First off the mine and minerals museum, where you can read a bit about the mining history of the area (mostly in Swedish). Information about the museum can be found here.
Then there's also a place where you can pan for gold, called Smålands gold camp. Viktor highly recommends this, Josefin is a bit more hestitant... Information about Smålands Gold Camp can be found here.
Have you ever petted an elk? Well, now is your chance! In Målilla Elkpark you can see the majestic beasts close (without having the worry of hitting them with your car). More information can be found here. It's about half an hours car drive from Millebo.
If you dare fly over the forests of Småland, you could go with the zip line! Europes longest zipline (4,5km) with a height of 52 meters. It is very fun and Josefin's grandad actually went when he was 85 years old - so there are no excuses!
More information can be found here.
In the close by village Virserum, there is an old train track which is not used for trains anymore, but for human powered draisine trolleys! So bring some fika and get on the trolley to see the wonderful forest, lakes and views.
More information can be found here.
Loaklev is a closeby tiny farm, which produce their own apple juice, honey and eggs. They have a small shop and café that are open sometimes, best to check their website and/or facebook before going there.
More information can be found here.
There's a lot to see in Småland (mostly trees), but you can drive for a long time (due to the trees) without finding somewhere to eat. Thankfully, there is an activity map of the closeby area of Millebo which can be found here! It includes some of the activities we have already linked, but also some cafés and more stuff!
There is a tenniscourt in Sjöarp, where you can play. You have to pay a small fee (for maintainance) and make sure that no one else is interested in playing. To book the tennis court, reach out to Josefin.
This part of Sweden is called the bible belt for a reason. There are many churches, both old and new, so you can go on a church rally - see as many as you can in a day (common activity in Småland). Just search for church on google maps. They're often open, so you can look inside.
Honorary mentions: Skirö Kyrka (check on that one!) and Granhult church (from 1220!!!).
It might feel wrong to go to Småland to ride on icelandic horses, but seeing the forest is great from horseback. Jennys Islandshästar has tour rides so if you want to take part of Viktor's heritage, you can book it here!
There are of course a lot of other things to do in the area, and you can always relax with a good book by the lake or play a boardgame (there are several found in Millegården that you can borrow!).
